Ca’ Del Prete

The legacy of wine production in Pino d'Asti, Piedmont, spans four generations of the Ferrero family, a tradition proudly continued by Luca Ferrero. In 1986, Giorgio Ferrero, Luca's great-uncle, began implementing certified organic farming methods on the family farm. Today, since taking ownership in 2014, Luca has embraced this heritage, pushing boundaries while remaining firmly within their rigorous organic certification. He's implemented new, precise methodologies that span from the meticulous care of the vineyards to the nuanced work in the cellar. Luca proudly defines his creations as "artisanal wines from organically grown grapes" – a philosophy that means production with minimal, if any, technology, eschewing chemical adjuvants, and with only small, necessary additions of preservatives at bottling.

Central to Luca's vision is Freisa, a historic grape variety that has always thrived on his family's sun-drenched hills. His ancestors were among the first to recognize the extraordinary potential that linked this particular vine to their unique micro-territory. Today, Luca passionately believes that Freisa is the purest vehicle to truly bring forth the amazing, authentic terroir of Pino d'Asti. He describes Freisa's character as "rustic, a bit rough, definitely not postcard-like," a genuine reflection of its origins. When asked about Freisa's place in the broader world of Piedmontese wines, Luca famously states, "Freisa is a sixteen-year-old rebel, with creativity, desire to discover the world and make new experiences. It just needs places and people ready to welcome it to make it explode definitively." This deep connection to the land and the rebellious spirit of Freisa defines the profound and authentic wines of Luca Ferrero.
